What people are saying about Evocation.
“Evocation: To Love, To Hope, To Dream by J T Milford is an engaging collection of poetry that revolves around the themes of past and current times, life in South Louisiana, music, war or peace, marriage, hidden things, and death. The poems look at the nuances, complexities, and fragilities of life and the accompanying emotions in an introspective way, making the poet's thoughts and feelings tangible to readers. The poems are evocative and the excellent wordplay weaves human emotions, thoughts, and feelings into the changing moods of the seasons, and makes the poems exquisite in their imagery. Love, loss, longing, and the other intricacies that define life have been dealt with aesthetically in this collection, making it a delight to all poetry lovers.
I found every poem in this collection amazingly beautiful, along with depth and meaning, and though I find it difficult to choose a personal favorite, a few of them did remain with me even after closing the book. The minimalist way of expressing loneliness in The Summer Is Past, and the formatting of the poem to make the falling of a leaf tangible to readers is amazing and left a lasting impression on me. Touching is another favorite of mine from this collection; it leaves readers with hope and a sense of mysterious longing. The textures and trajectories of life, love, longing, loneliness, sadness, and the beauty of life are all here in this collection.
I can go on and on about my other favorite poems in this fabulous collection but I would advise readers to pick up a copy and read it for themselves to bask in the sunlit images of J T Milford's poetry, search for heaven on a warm summer night, and feel the rain come down. Evocation: To Love, To Hope, To Dream is one of the finest collections of poems I have read in recent times. The good wordplay, well-expressed, and elegant, will make poetry readers look beyond the ordinariness and mundaneness of their lives and explore another dimension where they might be able to find a different meaning to life and their existence.”
